Spielberb invades Bayonne

The house that Spielberg built

Images of construction of Spielberg's Florida estate

In an attempt to prove that a good reporter can obtain nearly anything without leaving his or her office, I wondered if it would be possible to see what kind of house Steven Spielberg lived in.

Over the years we have seen all the fictional house the master film maker has constructed, but what about the one he actually lives in?

Through a few connections with the construction trade crews in Naples, Florida, the best I was able to come up with were some images from the year 2000, when Spielberg had this massive castle constructed for his living quarters there.

Although likely added to since, this sprawling 35,000 square foot estate on Ocean Boulevard is everything you might imagine, a kind of never never land for the world's top science fiction fan. The estate is said to be a series of small castles strung together in a snake like fashion.

Naples is located at the southwestern corner of Florida along what is known as the Paradise Coast which also includes Marco Island and Bonita Springs. Naples reportedly has more millionaires per capita than any other city in Florida. Stroll down Millionaire's Row, between Gulf Shore Boulevard and the beach, ride down Gordon Drive or cruise the canals to guess who lives in those 20-million-dollar mansions you might find Stephen Spielberg, Mike Ditka, Tom Cruise or Prince Albert of Monaco all living within a short distance of each other.

Spielberg as a good resident of the area, however, has contributed to Southwest Florida Holocaust Museum. The mission of the Museum is "to teach the history and lessons of the Holocaust to people of all races and religious beliefs, to prevent its re-occurrence and to perpetuate understanding, compassion and mutual respect, tolerance and diversity for generations to come.
